Boutique art deco Circa 39 Miami, with its pretty floral prints, bold stripes and bright colours, is the perfect choice for a Florida getaway near the beach.
It’s always nice to have somewhere beautiful to lay your head after a transatlantic flight on a budget airline. It’s even nicer when you get to hang with two of your best girls somewhere beautiful where there are tasty cocktails, great snacks and voluptuous plants.
Circa 39 is within a short stroll to the beach, shopping areas, party bars, the Art Deco district and the famous Wynwoods Arts District. If you don’t fancy walking in the heat, Uber is fast, cheap and easy in Miami. As our time in Miami was spent catching up over wine before heading south to Key West, we only ventured out of the hotel briefly; once for a dip in the ocean just over the road and once to Freehand Miami Beach for (delicious) food and drinks.
Our room was on the second floor, with the door opening out onto a view of the hotel’s Wunder Garden. This beautiful and shaded space was the perfect place for afternoon cocktails under giant bamboos and alfresco evenings swinging on hammocks.
The decor of our room reflected that of the hotel: a bright patterned wall, contrasting fabrics, comfortable pillows and a giant shower which drenched you in sweet sweet water after a day sweating it out by the pool.
Breakfast is a relaxed affair at Circa 39, with Jules’ Kitchen serving up rich coffee and a fresh food all morning. We took a seat outside to the front of the hotel, where we reclined on bright seats and watched the palms sway in Miami’s blustery weather. We opted for big bowls of mixed fruit on both mornings, but eggs and hot options and delicious-smelling bread were always on offer.
Our days here were sedate. We lounged by the pool, ordered snacks from the bar, swam a little and waited until it was an acceptable hour to drink beer. The atmosphere at the pool is relaxed, with music tinkling in the background, iguanas scurrying along the floor and waiters bringing beer to your shaded spot.
